Hello Compass India Holidays,
The trip to India and Nepal you arranged for us was wonderful. You missed nothing. I've traveled with other high-end agencies such as Abercrombie and Kent and you were every bit as good. Every detail was covered.
We were in strange (for us) countries for almost 3 weeks and we never had any trepidation at all, or ever felt like we were alone. If we had a question or a minor wrinkle, it was taken care of. We always felt perfectly safe. We felt like we had a baby sitter with us all the time. With all of the traveling to different cities there were a lot of hand off's, but no one ever missed a beat. We never wanted for a thing--one couldn't ask for more.
The guides, every one, were extremely knowledgeable and hospitable.. Of course, some were a bit better than others, but they were all good and they tried very hard. They all seemd to care about us. I was impressed with the diligence of everyone. The greeters made us feel very welcome and the drivers were fantastic. How one drives in India or Nepal is beyond either one of us. It takes a dedicated and talented person to drive in that kind of traffic. Sanjay was like our new best friend after the many days we spent on the road with him. I'm a bit nervous (after a very bad auto accident) when someone else drives, but I sat in the back seat completely calm knowing Sanjay was at the wheel.
The telephone you provided for us was very comforting, since neither of ours worked over there. My iPad did work when we could get WiFi access, but it was unreliable in some hotels especially the Radisson hotels. I only had to use it once to call a guide-- it turned out he was not late, I just had the meeting time wrong. The guides used the telephone to call us a few times. Great idea.
We truly liked most of the hotels. We loved The Maidens in Delhi, The Lalit Temple View, The Taj in Gwalior, and The Raas. The Leela Palace was the very best of all-what a way to end our trip to India We truly felt like royalty and the property itself is just amazing. The Lake Palace may be the "in" place, but it can't be nearly as good as the Leela. I just can't rave enough about the Leela Palace. What service, what beauty and what an elegant atmosphere and ambiance. I hate to admit it,
but I guess I really am a hotel snob and this hotel was absolutely perfect.
The guide service in Nepal was just super also. He really went out of his way to make sure we were happy and taken care of. The owner and his wife came to meet us and they were so gracious.
Thank you so much for allowing the third safari in Ranthambore. While we didn't see a tiger, the sighting of the leopard with a fawn in its mouth was even better. It was just at Park closing time on the third safari. That really made the trip to Ranthambore and helped negate the memories of the awful road trip from Agra. (grin).
I could go on for pages telling you how much we enjoyed the many days we spent touring India and Nepal. But in order to get this to you before next year, I must stop.
Thanks again Varsha to you and all of those who work with you. We found the Indian people so very kind, helpful and exceedingly gracious. Most Indians truly love their beautiful country and its history. Their sweet faces and beautiful smiles will always remain with me. We have wonderful memories of this India trip with Nepal. I can still see the smiles of approval when I wore a sari or kurta. They got a real kick out of this blue eyed, gray hair with a red stripe lady wearing an Indian dress.
Thanks for making it all possible,
Karen and Jack Mills
