DGCA sets up committee to monitor route-wise tariffs
1st Dec 2010 In a bid to keep tab on airlines soaring high ticket prices, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has set up a committee to monitor route-wise tariffs across their networks on a regular basis, Times of India quoted.
Nasim Zaidi, Chief, DGCA, who took over as Aviation Secretary on Tuesday said, “We are adopting a twin-pronged approach to fares. One will be asking airlines to give a price band and also give route-wise tariffs. We will see airlines don’t breach these things.”
As per the strategy, airlines had been asked to give a detailed monthly range of tariffs for all their routes and if there are any changes in the fares, the airline will notify it to DGCA and the same will be announced on airline websites within 24 hours.
“The DGCA has given powers under rule 135 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, to direct airlines to establish tariff having regard to all factors, publish the tariff on its website or two daily newspapers, maintain all records relating to tariff and produce on demand by DGCA for inspection. The DG may issue directions to the airlines in case airlines establish predatory or excessive tariff or engage in oligopolistic practice,” said Praful Patel, Civil Aviation Minister
