Amadeus launches EMD server for travel agencies
7th Dec 2010 Amadeus, a technology solutions provider for the global travel and tourism industry has announced the launch of IATA’s Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) for travel agencies. EMD is the industry electronic messaging standard, which enables airlines and travel agencies to share information relating to issuance, management, distribution and fulfilment of airline services. According to the company release, the announcement made by Amadeus stated that all Global Distribution System providers will have to ensure that the EMD standard is made available to travel agencies in all of Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) and Billing & Settlement Plan (BSP) by 2013.
Amadeus has already announced the availability of its EMD solution for airlines with Finnair, which was implemented in June 1, 2010 and which enabled the airline to process EMDs through its direct sales channels. The EMD standard is claimed to be essential for selling of airline ancillary services.
