Air India may operate domestic flights from international terminal in Ahmedabad
27th April 2011 According to sources, airport authorities and Air India officials held a meeting recently in this regard where it was announced that on May 1 and 2, 2011, all their flights would be operated from the international terminal, but on a trial basis. According to airport officials, the decision was originally taken by Praful Patel, the then Civil Aviation Minister and Narendra Modi, Chief Minister, Gujarat himself, as per a DNA report.
However, customs and immigration officials are skeptical about the proposal. They said that handling the flow of international passengers itself is a difficult task as there are several lacunae at the terminal and staff crunch in the immigration cell. They said that bifurcating domestic and international passengers will be chaotic and risky.
"Recently, there were reports of a human trafficking incident from terminal-3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and amalgamation of both types of passengers actually benefited traffickers," said an immigration official.
