Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary

The Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 50 km from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. The sanctuary falls on the way to Ponmudi, from Thiruvananthapuram. The Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over a wide area of 53 sq. km. on the Western Ghats. The sanctuary was established in 1938. The Peppara wildlife is known for its thick forest areas, eucalyptus plantations, crystal clear streams and rocky terrains, which are ideal for adventure trips. The sanctuary has a rich population of mammalian fauna and is fast emerging as a great draw to the wildlife enthusiasts and ornithologists. Some of the important animals that are spotted easily at the wildlife sanctuary are leopard, elephants, sambar, lion-tailed macaque and cormorant.
Major Attraction :

Thiruvananthapuram in the tea-growing Ponmudi Hills, protects elephants, sambar, lion-tailed macaques, leopards and some other assorted animal species. It also has a fine reputation for watching birds. The main season is from January to May. Note the park is sometimes closed so check before you depart. The drive up is beautiful past clove, rubber and cashew plantations in the foothills, and then through teak forest as you climb more steeply before reaching the tea plantations. Good walking country.
