Musial Biography

Stan Musial was selected the Sporting News Major League Player of the Year in 1946 and 1951. Sports Illustrated named him its Sportsman of the Year in 1957 and the Sporting News honored him as Sportsman of the Decade for the years between 1946 and 1956. I n 1954, Musial became the first in history to hit 5 home runs in a double header against the New York Giants.

Upon retirement, Stan Musial held 17 major league, 29 National League and 9 All-Star game records. In 1968 a statue of him was dedicated at Busch Stadium and a year later he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
